Christmas

I very much enjoyed my first Christmas. There were a lot of boxes to climb on, brightly colored paper to tear and my absolute favorite - bows to play with! My parents got really excited about the stuff in the boxes and kept trying to get me to play the toys instead, but I still say the bows and boxes were the best. They took away all the fun stuff though and left behind the toys. So now I'm playing with them, but I hope we do Christmas again soon so that I can have new boxes to climb on and more bows to play with.

6 month check-up
Today I had my 6 month check-up. Everything was great until the evil nurse lady came in with the sharp pointy things that hurt my legs. I really don't like the nurse lady. But the doctor was nice and said I was doing good. I weigh 15lbs and 9oz, which is a little small according to the doctor (10th percentile) but I'm still gaining weight so it's ok. I'm also 26 inches tall (22nd percentile). He was really impressed with all my new skills and told mommy he thought I'd be walking by 8 1/2 months. I've got to get busy if I'm going to meet that goal! My mouth has been hurting a lot - and the doctor said that I have 8 teeth ready to come in! Two of which should break through really soon. So I guess I'll have to start singing that song "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth." Because once I have them, my mouth won't hurt as much, right?

Major Progress
In the last couple of weeks I have made excellent progress in becoming more mobile. 2 weeks ago I learned to sit up on my own, last week I learned how to crawl and just this morning I figured out how to pull myself up into a standing position!
With my new skills I have discovered all kinds of cool things - like how much fun it is to pull magazines and coasters off the coffee table, play with the presents under the Christmas tree and knock over mommy's plants! I have to take advantage of my new "finds" the first time, though. As soon as I find something neat to play with, mom takes it away and puts it up higher - out of my reach. So NOT cool.

Getting Closer
With a little more practice I'll have this crawling thing down. And then watch out world! Here I come! Already, my limited crawling skills have enabled me access to some cool new things. So far I've figured out how to push the buttons on the DVD player, pull the magazines off of the bottom shelf of the coffee table and sneak up on the unsuspecting Galileo!
I really enjoyed hanging out with my cousin, Aleczander, over Thanksgiving. We discussed the coolness of balls and he let me play with some of his trucks. I have to get some of those (hint, hint Santa).

Trip to Missouri
Missouri is a long way from our house! We had to drive and fly on two planes and drive again before we got to Aunt Ruth and Uncle Gary's house. It was a really long day. But I was good, because I knew Mommy didn't have anyone but me to help her on the trip. There was a ton of new things and people to look at which made me happy. I love to see new thing things. And everyone loved me and thought I was the greatest thing ever. I smiled a lot. I like to meet new people.

Speaking of new people, I met my newest cousin, Grant. He's pretty cool. He sleeps a lot though. I think we'll have a lot of fun when he's just a little older. Grant's big sister, Morgan was a lot of fun. She made faces and danced for me. She can be really funny and made me laugh.

I also got to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Harris while I was in Missouri. It was great to see them again. Grandpa sang to me and bounced me on his knee. Grandma spoils me and I love her for it! She got me some cool new toys. The puppy dog she gave me sings and we talk to each other. It's nice to have a friend my size.

Grandma also got me this cool ring stacking toy. I don't have it figured out yet, but I'm working on it. It lights up and plays music when I take off the colored rings, so that's gotta have something to do with it.
Both the puppy dog and rings are great because I can sit up and play with them. Did I forget to tell you that I can sit up now?! I fall over every once in awhile, but I do pretty well. Mommy is bit overprotective and surrounds me with pillows and blankets when I'm on sitting on a hard floor. At least it makes for a soft landing when I topple over. I still don't know quite how far I can reach for a toy and still stay sitting up. I'm getting better at sitting everyday now!

Reaching
It's hard being 5 months old! I know how to grab a hold of things but when they're out of my reach I have to wait for someone to get them for me. It's really frustrating. I can roll over now, so that helps a little, but what I really need is to learn how to crawl. I try REALLY hard, but I don't seem to get anywhere!

Solid Food
I'm almost five months old now, so mom and dad decided it was time for me to try to eat something other than milk. I'm still not so sure this was a good idea. I mean, what's wrong with milk? I've doubled in size and I haven't had anything but milk. If nothing is broke than why fix it?? Furthermore,as you will see in my newest video, eating from a spoon is waaaay messier than drinking from a bottle. My parent's think it's cute now, but just wait until I learn how to throw my food!

Family
I have a lot of aunts and uncles! And they all love to spoil me! It's so great. My Aunt Sarah and Uncle Eric just came out to visit from Missouri. Aunt Sarah spent a lot of time playing with me. I showed her all of my new tricks - like rolling over - she was really impressed.

Aunt Sarah and Uncle Eric brought me this nifty new Mizzou outfit. Now I am all ready to watch the Mizzou vs. Nebraska game tonight with dad!

Two feet
I had my 4 month doctor's visit today. I am officially 2 feet tall! And I weighed in at 13 lbs and 1 oz. The doctor was great, he's a funny guy - he says things like "see ya later gator" even though I'm a baby not an alligator (you would think a doctor would know the difference!). I don't like the nurses very much though. The nurse gave me 3 shots and they hurt a lot! I gave her the dirtiest look and yelled at her. Bad nurse! Bad! Daddy rescued me from the mean lady and then Mommy fed me, and I felt better.

My new cousin
Grandpa and Izabella
Mommy and I went to visit my new cousin Izabella this week. Boy is she small! Mommy says I used to be that small, but I don't believe her.
I took my first airplane trip too! Everyone said it was a small plane, but it looked big to me! The airplane was loud and it was kind of scary when we went off the ground (but I didn't cry!). Mommy held me tight and let me eat a lot so my ears would pop. I think flying is way better than driving to Grandma and Grandpa's house! I didn't even have to be in my car seat!

Football Fan In Training
Today I watched football with my Dad for the first time. Football games take a long time. I had two bottles and had to break for two naps before the game was over! Daddy was really into the game. He yelled and cheered a lot. And he threw his arms above his head and kissed Mommy whenever the guys in black and gold ran across the field. Daddy was even more entertaining to watch than the game!

2 Months Old
Check out my new outfit from Aunt Sarah and Uncle Eric! They sent it just in time for my 2 month birthday!

In the last few weeks I have learned a lot! I enjoy taking in my surroundings and love studying new things (which is just about everything). I get bored and even a little fussy if I'm left to look at the same thing too long. I really like my toys. I haven't quite figured out how to grab a hold of them yet, but I can bat them around pretty well! My favorite is the teddy bear mobile Mommy put up over my changing table. The three little brown bears are fun to talk to when I'm getting my diaper changed. Mommy and Daddy are fun to talk to too. They make funny faces at me and I try to imitate them. Last week I learned to stick out my tongue - Mommy and Daddy seemed to think this was really funny. I figured out how to put my hand it my mouth - I can almost fit my whole fist in at once - who needs a pacifier when you've got hands! Mommy keeps taking my hand out of mouth and putting in the pacifier, though. She said something about not wanting to pay for braces, whatever those are.

4th of July

I went to a parade today. There were a LOT of people. The guy who calls himself "Daddy" carried me around and showed me off to all the pretty girls. They really like me. Parades are weird. There were lots of loud cars and sirens, guys walking their dogs, people pulling wagons filled with toys, girls dressed up funny. It's kinda like sitting on your front porch in San Francisco, only with lots of candy traveling at high velocity.

My First Hike
Pinnacles National Monument

My kidnappers took me to outer space today. It was very bright and hot. It's also very brown in outer space apparently. Lots of different kinds of brown. The ugly one held me against his chest as we travelled along the dust road. We walked for about a half hour, and then for no reason we just turned around and went back. Seems kinda pointless really. Just walking around getting stinky and dusty. And then we went home and they made me wet. They seemed pretty happy with the whole thing. Cruel indeed.

Progress is measured in small increments

Today I looked at Daddy with both eyes at the same time, as opposed to looking at daddy with one eye, and the other eye looking at...the wall...Mommy...the head nurse (though in my defense, she is quite the hottie!). I also can kick Daddy so hard that I almost get away if he's not ready for it. Also, they don't know it, but I'm gonna surprise them and jump off the changing table pretty soon. Maybe if they get the video camera out I can make it on America's Funniest Home Videos. Air Carson, jumping baby. Man that show is funny. I laughed so hard, milk came out my nose. Really.
These people keep staring at me
It's really starting to creep me out. Who are they? They kidnap me (wearing masks mind you) from my nice - if a bit cramped - home and poke me and make me cry. The ugly one makes faces at me. I don't think he'd do that if he knew what it looks like. And the cow sits me up and shakes me after she gives the milk. How'd you like it if you had to ride in a bumper car after eating? Plus, they keep taking my pants off when I'm about to go to sleep. Creepy I tell ya.
