Cohen at 10 months

Cohen turned 10 months old last week. And with this new milestone, got his first case of pink eye, stomach flu and an ear infection. It really wasn't a good week for him. But he recovered quickly and is back to his old self.

In general Cohen is becoming more coordinated. He is crawling FAST. He stands and cruises on the furniture, although not a very quick pace at this point. He is pretty cautious. He is getting better at feeding himself - a larger percentage of the food now makes it into his mouth.

Cohen has started to say "mama" and "dada" when Chris and I are around. It's somewhat indiscriminate, but he is starting to say dada more to Chris and mama more when I'm in the room. He crawls to us now and puts his hands up in the air and asks to be picked up. It's very sweet. Cohen loves it when you play peek a boo with him and really gets excited with Daddy "throws" him up in the air.

He likes to play with Carson's toys. He pushes cars around on the floor, bangs toys together and in general wants to play with whatever Carson wants to play with (Carson is not very happy about this, but does share pretty well with Cohen). He's also getting to the stage when he gets upset now when something gets taken away or he can't get to what he wants. He's still pretty easily distracted, but I have a feeling it won't be so easy in the very near future.

Carson's 3rd Birthday

We celebrated Carson's 3rd birthday party with friends yesterday. It was a typical spring day in Salinas- overcast and a little chilly, but that didn't keep the kids from having a good time. We got a bounce house for the first time, and the kids really enjoyed jumping and playing in it, Carson most of all. They also rode bikes, played in the sandbox and drew pictures on the driveway with sidewalk chalk. It was a fun morning.

The birthday party theme was Mickey Mouse Choo Choo Express (Carson's favorite Mickey Mouse cartoon). I made him a train cake. It took quite a lot of time to decorate all 25 individual train cars, but they turned out really well (I think). And the kids seems to enjoy eating them.

Carson had grown up a lot in the last year. His language development is probably the most obvious change. He is speaking in complete sentences now. He asks a lot of questions and can be very chatty. A huge milestone was potty training. He still has the occasional accident, but is doing really well.

Carson knows his basic colors and is learning shapes. He is learning how to count to 10 and has started to learn some of the letters of the alphabet. He also knows his basic shapes (circle, square, triangle).

Carson really enjoys being outdoors. He loves to ride his bike and scooter, play in his sandbox and help me in the garden. He LOVES playing with his cars, especially the character cars from Disney/Pixar Cars Movie. Thanks to potty training prizes, he has collected most of them now. He also enjoys doing puzzles, and is getting pretty good at the small jigsaw puzzles. We've also started playing simple games like candyland and matching card games. It's really a fun age.
